Maker coat

The maker coat holds the abrasive grain on the backing material. Phenolic or urea resins are the main binding materials used. Fillers are added to achieve various properties, such as flexibility or water resistance.

The bond determines how firmly the abrasive grains are held in place and when they break out. The following must be kept in mind: Abrasive grains may only break out in the case of multi-layer abrasives such as COMPACTGRAIN, XELERION or ILUMERON.
