FEPA
FEPA stands for Federation of European Producers of Abrasives. It is a European association of abrasive manufacturers that sets standards for the classification of abrasive grains. FEPA grit specifications with the suffix “P”, such as P60 or P120, are particularly well-known.
Grit size is one of the most important variables in grinding. Without uniform standards, grain size specifications would differ from manufacturer to manufacturer.
The FEPA ensures that:
- a specific grit size always has a defined grain size
- grinding results are comparable and reproducible
- Users can reliably select and combine abrasives
What this means for the user is planning reliability in the grinding process - especially in serial production and multi-stage grinding processes.
What effect does the use of standardised abrasives have?
- Uniform grinding results
- Better planning of grinding processes
- Comparability of different products
