Fibre disc
A fibre disc is an abrasive with rigid vulcanised fibre backing material, which is used with a back-up pad. They are primarily used for very high stock removal, e.g. when deburring or removing weld seams.
What effect does the use of a fibre disc have on service life, stock removal and surface?
- Stock removal: very high
- Service life: Depending on material, abrasive grain and additional layer
- Surface: fairly coarse, only limited suitability for finishing
Typical problems when using fibre discs:
- Overheating of the workpiece
- Wrong back-up pad
- Incorrect application
What needs to be kept in mind when using fibre discs?
- Use back-up pads with a suitable hardness
- Keep the pressure under control
- Use an angle grinder with sufficient power
