Fibre disc

A fibre disc is an abrasive with rigid vulcanised fibre backing material, which is used with a back-up pad. They are primarily used for very high stock removal, e.g. when deburring or removing weld seams.

What effect does the use of a fibre disc have on service life, stock removal and surface?

  • Stock removal: very high
  • Service life: Depending on material, abrasive grain and additional layer
  • Surface: fairly coarse, only limited suitability for finishing

Typical problems when using fibre discs:

  • Overheating of the workpiece
  • Wrong back-up pad
  • Incorrect application

What needs to be kept in mind when using fibre discs?

  • Use back-up pads with a suitable hardness
  • Keep the pressure under control
  • Use an angle grinder with sufficient power
