Grit size

The grit size describes the size of the abrasive grains. It is the most important factor for stock removal and surface quality.

How does the grit size affect stock removal and surface?

• High stock removal = coarse grit size (e.g. #36)
• Fine surface = fine grit size (e.g. P600)

Typical problems when the grit size is not suitable for the application:

• Deep grinding marks = too coarse grit size
• No stock removal = grit size too fine

What needs to be kept in mind when it comes to grit size?

• Adjust the grit size to the grinding process and maintain a grit size order if necessary
